High-speed chase ends in Edwardsburgh-Cardinal with two arrests and firearms seized

Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues

Two people are facing multiple charges after a vehicle that initially fled from police was stopped in Edwardsburgh-Cardinal Township early Thursday.

Officers with the Grenville OPP tried to stop the car around 2 a.m. on County Road 2 in Cardinal for a traffic violation. The vehicle sped away, but officers did not pursue for safety reasons.

The car was later spotted by SD&G OPP officers in Morrisburg, who followed it to Iroquois. Grenville OPP used a spike belt and other measures to safely stop the vehicle. No one was injured, though one police cruiser was struck.

A 39-year-old man from North Grenville faces multiple charges including flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and unauthorized possession of a firearm. A 42-year-old woman from Elizabethtown Township faces charges including obstructing a peace officer. Both are being held for bail.

Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
