A community-led push is gaining attention after Augusta Township voted to remove the lighting at North Augusta’s ball diamond due to a fallen light pole.
Ontario Approved Professionals, co-founded by lifelong residents of the area, is calling on council to pause the decision. In a public letter, the group says the field is more than just a ballpark — it’s a gathering place, a tradition, and a symbol of small-town life.
The group, which also sponsors local baseball programs, agrees that safety is important. But they’re urging officials to explore alternatives before removing the infrastructure completely. Suggested solutions include using reinforced poles, affordable replacements, or seeking a second engineering opinion.
They’re asking residents to share their message and support efforts to keep the lights on.
“Community matters,” their letter reads. “This field is where memories are made.”
