The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is adding 240 new licensed child care spaces through the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) initiative. This expansion brings the total to 637 new spaces by the end of 2026, helping meet the community's growing need for affordable, high-quality daycare.
The Province of Ontario is working to create 86,000 new spaces through CWELCC to support working families. Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, thanked the provincial government for their support. "This expansion will be great news for parents who rely on daycare," he said.
So far, 222 spaces have opened in areas like Kemptville, Brockville, and Prescott. An additional 74 spaces are under development in Portland and Gananoque, with plans for more to follow. Warden Corinna Smith-Gatcke praised the initiative, calling it essential for supporting local families.
