LLGAMH union calls for private mediator as strike nears 12 weeks

The union representing striking workers at Leeds and Grenville Lanark District Health Unit Mental Health (LLGAMH) is again calling for a private mediator to help end the ongoing labour dispute as the strike approaches its 12th week.

According to the union, it contacted the employer Thursday night with a renewed proposal to bring in a private mediator to help both sides reach a collective agreement.

“Our members' hearts break as we continue to see the most vulnerable in our community suffer,” said Bargaining Team Chair Megan Plue. “Our members want to be back at work assisting those who need these services.”

The union says the prolonged strike continues to affect mental health services across the region and could further delay the opening of the Hart Hub, which has already faced setbacks related to funding agreements and landlord issues.
