The deadline is August 1st
Another Donald Trump trariff deadline is approaching on August 1st, a date that could see the tariffs on Canada goods rise to 35%.
MP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands & Rideau Lakes Michael Barrett says legislation put forth by the governing Liberals, supported by his opposition Conservatives is helping strengthen our country, though his party doesn't agree with it 100%.
Barrett says the Conservatives will support "in whatever way they can" Prime Minister Carney getting the best deal for Canadian workers and families.
The MP says "We're all pulling in the same direction" when it comes to the Country's economy and the Trade War threats from the US, but he has a message for the Prime Minister.
At this week's Council of the Federation Meeting with the country's premiers, Prime Minister Mark Carney said he is prioritizing getting the best deal possible for Canada ahead of the August 1st deadline.
The premiers agreed that they have faith in the federal government's negotiating team, with Council of the Federation Chair, Ontario Premier Doug Ford saying, "Trump himself is acting like the enemy."
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is among those saying that getting a deal by August 1st would be a win, but she would support missing that deadline if it means getting a better deal for Canadians.
