The tournament runs until July 19, with millions of fans around the world expected to follow the action over the coming weeks
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially underway, and the tournament hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico has faced ongoing criticism over several fronts, including the cost of attending matches, with the average resale price for a group-stage ticket in Canada estimated between $700 and $900, well above what many fans can comfortably spend.
Local MP Michael Barrett said those prices raise questions about the amount of public money being spent to help host the tournament when many Canadians cannot afford to attend.
Barrett also highlighted the benefits the global event could bring to local economies.
The tournament runs until July 19, with millions of fans around the world expected to follow the action over the coming weeks.
