The accused faces eight charges, including arson, impaired driving, and theft
A 40-year-old man from Cardinal is facing multiple charges after two suspicious fires and a two-vehicle collision early Tuesday morning.
Around 4 a.m. on October 14, Grenville OPP and the Edwardsburgh-Cardinal Fire Department were called to a house fire on Adelaide Street. The home was completely destroyed.
While firefighters battled the blaze, one of the department’s pick-up trucks was stolen from the scene. Police say it was later involved in a crash on County Road 2 before fleeing the area. The other driver was not injured, but their vehicle sustained heavy damage.
Shortly after, a second fire broke out at the fire hall on Dishaw Street, where a man was seen running away.
Police located the stolen truck nearby and arrested one suspect.
The accused faces eight charges, including arson, impaired driving, and theft. The investigation continues with the Office of the Fire Marshal.
