The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is launching a comprehensive planning and environmental assessment study for Highway 401 improvements between 1 km west of Highway 15 and 1 km east of Highway 2/King Street. The study also includes the Thousand Islands Parkway and Highway 2 interchange.
The first of two Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held on October 2, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lou Jeffries Arena – Upstairs Hall, 600 King Street East, Gananoque. The session will be an informal drop-in event, with MTO staff and consultants available to present the study background, current highway conditions, and the process for evaluating potential improvements.
The project aims to identify and assess long-term transportation needs, develop improvement alternatives, and evaluate environmental impacts under the Class Environmental Assessment process. The second PIC is planned for Fall 2026, focusing on the preferred design, mitigation measures, and construction staging.
