Eastern Ontario OPP officers laid nearly 1,700 charges during Operation Impact, a national road safety campaign held from October 10 to 13. The initiative targeted impaired, aggressive, and distracted driving, along with seatbelt and child car seat violations, which are among the leading causes of death and injury on Canadian roads.
Officers across all East Region detachments and traffic units, from Quinte West to Quebec and throughout the Ottawa Valley, took part in the campaign. Preliminary results show 1,698 charges, including 982 for speeding, 29 for stunt driving, 41 for impaired driving, 102 for seatbelt violations, 27 for distracted driving, and 83 for driving without proper insurance.
