New school bus eligibility rules are coming to Eastern Ontario

Families with medical, safety or exceptional circumstances can use STEO’s Request-a-Ride program for consideration

Kids are gearing up to return to the classroom and Student Transportation Eastern Ontario (STEO) is implementing new service levels for the 2026-27 school year.

General Manager and Chief Administrative Officer, Janet Murray says kindergarten students remain unaffected, while there are some changes for grades 1-8.

Grades 9 to 12 now have a 3.2-kilometre eligibility zone.

Murray understands that these changes aren't popular among many families.

Families with medical, safety or exceptional circumstances can use STEO’s Request-a-Ride program for consideration.
