Picket lines at colleges across Ontario were lifted after a tentative agreement was reached between college support staff and the province.
About 10,000 full-time support workers at 24 public colleges had been on strike since Sept. 11. They include library technicians, IT staff, disability support workers and financial-aid employees.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and the College Employer Council (CEC) reached the agreement following weekend mediation led by William Kaplan.
Details of the deal have not been made public. A ratification vote is scheduled for Nov. 4.
Picketing has ended at all campuses, and employees are expected to return to work tomorrow (Oct. 16). The union will present the tentative agreement to members this afternoon.
The union had pushed for stronger job security, better wages and benefits. It also raised concerns over privatization and how the province uses the Skills Development Fund to support private training companies.
