On Tuesday, August 12th
Brockville police say quick action stopped a man from stealing purses at the Superstore on Parkedale Avenue.
Around 5:30 p.m. on August 12, 2025, officers arrived to find a 36-year-old Montreal man suspiciously eyeing an elderly woman’s purse on her walker near the checkout.
Security video also showed him searching through a senior man’s bag earlier, but nothing was taken.
Police say the incident matches patterns seen in cases where suspects travel along the Highway 401 corridor committing thefts and frauds in multiple communities.
The man, who was on his way to Toronto, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Authorities remind the public to stay alert in busy public places and keep purses, wallets and handbags secure to help prevent opportunistic crimes.
