The public is being warned that damage to roofs, fences, tree branches and soft shelters is possible
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Brockville and Prescott as strong winds and heavy rain are expected to continue into early evening.
Environment Canada says conditions are right for storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour and local downpours.
The public is being warned that damage to roofs, fences, tree branches and soft shelters is possible.
Officials urge residents to take cover if threatening weather approaches. "When thunder roars, go indoors," says Emergency Management Ontario, reminding people that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when the atmosphere is unstable enough to support dangerous storms with hail, wind or rain.
Residents are asked to stay updated with alerts from Environment Canada and report severe weather by emailing ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or posting with #ONStorm.
