Clinics resume across region as public health adds more private testing choices
Southeast Public Health is expanding access to sexual health services as clinics return to regular schedules following last year’s temporary reductions.
The health unit says services were scaled back in October to support the integration of teams and systems after a regional merger. With that work progressing, clinics in Gananoque, Perth and Carleton Place will reopen as early as April 7, while hours in Kemptville and Almonte will return to previous levels.
Alongside the reopening, Southeast Public Health is introducing new GetaKit testing depots across the region. The program allows people aged 17 and older to access testing for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections, including HIV and chlamydia, from home.
Deputy medical officer of health Dr. Ethan Toumishey says the depots offer added privacy and convenience for those who prefer not to receive kits by mail or attend in-person appointments.
Residents must register online to access testing options and follow-up care if needed.
