SIREG Management Inc., the company out of Burlington that owns the Balmoral Place apartments here in Brockville, is responding to a recent report of an elevator outage that has left some Brockville residents stranded for nearly 3 months.
Here's their full response to a request for comment from BrockvilleDaily.ca:
"We recognize the significant disruption and hardship caused by the elevator outage at 2 Balmoral Place, particularly for residents with mobility challenges and medical needs. The elevator was taken out of service on May 7, following an inspection by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority.
The elevator maintenance contractor was notified immediately, and management began working to determine the required repairs.
When the initial repair process did not progress as quickly as necessary, we retained an independent elevator consultant, obtained a competitive replacement proposal, approved the required work and paid the deposit necessary to begin manufacturing the custom replacement cylinder.
We have also transitioned the project to a new elevator contractor to move the work forward as efficiently as possible. Throughout the outage, our team has worked directly with affected residents and their families.
Support offered has included permanent transfers to ground-floor units at the same rent, coverage of moving expenses, reimbursement of specialized medical transportation costs and daily on-site assistance with matters such as carrying groceries.
Building-wide notices have also been issued to provide residents with information and dedicated points of contact. We sincerely regret the impact this outage has had on our residents.
We remain committed to completing the work as quickly and safely as possible, while continuing to provide accommodations, assistance and regular updates until the elevator is returned to service."
