Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has launched an investigation after a person was injured during an arrest in Prescott.
The Ontario Provincial Police said the incident happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Monday, when members of the OPP Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad took an individual into custody on Prescott Centre Drive.
Police said the individual sustained an injury during the interaction with officers and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The OPP notified the province's Special Investigations Unit, which has invoked its mandate and is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Under Ontario law, the SIU is an independent civilian agency that investigates incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm at a person, or allegations of sexual assault.
Because the SIU has invoked its mandate, the OPP said it will not be providing any further information while the investigation is underway. No additional details about the individual or the injury have been released.
