A yellow warning is in effect
Environment Canada is warning residents in Brockville and Prescott to prepare for hazardous weather as snow squalls are expected to begin this afternoon and continue into the evening. The weather agency says heavy snow and blowing snow could reduce visibility to near zero at times.
Local snowfall amounts of five to 10 centimetres are forecast, with wind gusts reaching up to 70 kilometres per hour. Officials warn the afternoon rush hour commute is likely to be impacted, with rapidly changing road conditions.
While the heaviest snowfall is expected during the afternoon, blowing snow may persist overnight, continuing to affect travel. Environment Canada says travel could become dangerous with little warning as visibility drops suddenly.
Residents are advised to prepare for possible disruptions to transportation, services and utilities. Drivers are urged to slow down and adjust travel plans if possible.
