Dumbrille says everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate the historic anniversary
A local church is marking a major milestone this weekend, celebrating 200 years of faith, music and community.
St. James Anglican Church in Maitland will celebrate its bicentennial tomorrow and Sunday with a concert and a special anniversary worship service.
The weekend begins tomorrow at 7 p.m. with a free concert featuring organist Matthew Larkin and JUNO Award-winning soprano Kathleen Radke. A goodwill offering is suggested.
Sunday’s anniversary worship service starts at 10:30 a.m., with Right Reverend William G. Cliff, Bishop of the Diocese of Ontario, in attendance.
Organizer Sarah Jane Dumbrille says special guests and musicians will also take part.
A luncheon will follow at noon at the Maitland Education and Recreation Centre (MERC) in Maitland.
Dumbrille also discusses what makes the bicentennial celebration unique.
Founded in 1826, St. James Anglican Church has served generations of families in the community, with a history that predates Canadian Confederation in 1867 by more than 40 years.
Dumbrille says everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate the historic anniversary.
