Anyone with information is asked to contact OPP or Crime Stoppers

A 24-year-old Bowmanville man is facing five charges after police say he tried to flee in a stolen utility van on Highway 401 near Augusta Township.

Grenville OPP officers were notified around noon Saturday that a utility van had been reported stolen from Kingston. Officers later received a traffic complaint about the vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401.

Police attempted to stop the van, but the driver allegedly refused to pull over and fled.

About an hour later, officers intercepted the vehicle and deployed a tire-deflation device. The van came to a safe stop on Highway 401 in Augusta Township.

Mustafa Alsanosey has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation, breach of recognizance and driving while under suspension.

He was held for bail and later released. Alsanosey is scheduled to appear in Brockville's Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 4.

Anyone with information is asked to contact OPP or Crime Stoppers.
