It is the first approved increase since 2021
Taxi rides in Brockville are about to cost more after the city’s police services board approved a fare hike at the request of City Taxi and Executive Taxi. The increase could take effect soon, though no exact date has been announced.
The base fare will rise from $4.50 to $4.75, making Brockville one of the most expensive starting rates in Ontario. By comparison, Kingston charges $4.50, Cornwall $4, and Orangeville $3.55.
Other charges are also climbing. The distance rate will move from $0.22 to $0.24 per 100 metres, while the wait time fee will increase from $34 to $36 per hour. It is the first approved increase since 2021.
Board discussions touched on whether flat fares might suit smaller cities and if rideshare services like Uber or Lyft could come to Brockville. The police service continues to manage the city’s taxi bylaw, a practice followed in about half of Ontario communities.
