Students and staff at St. Mary High School are celebrating after a revived Relay fundraiser far exceeded expectations and raised $60,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
The school announced the final total during closing ceremonies Thursday night after bringing back the event for the first time in several years. Organizers originally set a fundraising goal of $25,000, believing the school community could reach it with support from students, families and staff.
Instead, donations more than doubled the target, surprising organizers and drawing praise from the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario.
The school shared the news in a social media post, thanking everyone who worked on the fundraiser and helped make the event successful.
School officials said more photos from the event will be shared in the coming days as the Brockville community continues celebrating the result and its support for cancer research.
