A routine traffic stop on Highway 401 turned into a much bigger police investigation after officers say they found cash, suspected drugs and a stack of credit cards.
Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle in Leeds County on Sept. 17 after an officer spotted Highway Traffic Act violations.
Things escalated when police discovered that both people inside the vehicle were wanted on outstanding warrants. They were arrested, and officers searched the vehicle as part of the investigation.
According to the OPP, police seized about $14,900 in cash, along with suspected methamphetamine, heroin and opium. Officers also found 20 credit cards bearing the names of other people, as well as various electronic and retail items.
The two people are now facing charges involving alleged credit card trafficking, drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. Police say the charges also involve an alleged breach of court-imposed conditions.
