Two killed after vehicle strikes disabled transport truck on Highway 401

Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage to contact the Leeds County OPP at 1-888-310-1122

Two people are dead after a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a disabled transport truck on Highway 401 near Gananoque.

Leeds County OPP say emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Monday.

Police say the initial investigation found the transport truck was disabled on the westbound right shoulder when it was struck by a westbound passenger vehicle.

Two occupants of the passenger vehicle, aged 47 and 73, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle was taken to hospital for assessment. The transport truck driver was not injured.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team assisted with the investigation, while the Gananoque Police Service and the Ministry of Transportation helped with road closures.

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed for several hours as officers investigated and cleared the scene.
