Volunteer Appreciation Day: Nicole Kehoe

Beacon Bags continues its efforts to eliminate human trafficking and support survivors across Ontario

Nicole Kehoe is a dedicated volunteer with Beacon Bags in Cardinal, a non-profit group supporting women and girls who have escaped human trafficking. Kehoe is a wife and mother of two adult children. She also works full time as a production manager at Ross Video in Iroquois. Despite her busy schedule, she has volunteered with Beacon Bags for more than four years.

She first learned about the organization after meeting founder Denise March at a local market. March had a booth set up, and Kehoe said a hoodie on display immediately caught her attention. That moment led to a conversation and, eventually, long-term involvement.

Beacon Bags is a volunteer-run organization founded in 2017. It provides bags filled with basic necessities to women and girls who have escaped trafficking situations. The group’s long-term goal is to open an emergency shelter to help increase the number of survivors who can access long-term care and support resources.

Kehoe explained what keeps her committed to Beacon Bags.

She added that anyone thinking about volunteering shouldn’t think twice.
