The 2025 Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Community Awards were held Thursday night, and the Johnstown Jewels U15 Girls Softball Team took home the Youth Citizen of the Year award.
The team captured the Ontario Provincial Championship with a perfect six-game run, finishing with an 8-3 victory in the final.
Coach Jason Ault described the team.
He explained his experience coaching the team.
Ault said he remains optimistic going into a new season in 2026.
Earlier this year, Mayor Tory Deschamps and Council recognized the team’s achievement, declaring August 24, 2026, as Johnstown Jewels Day.
The proclamation celebrated not only the players’ hard work and teamwork but also the guidance of coaches Jason Ault, Paul Dedekker, and Kelly Kinch, along with the support of families and the community.
The team includes Charla Chenier, Elizabeth Hernandez, Grace Elliott, Aubrie Webb, Lily Carkner, Marisa Latimer, Reese Dedekker, Jayden Vandervelde, Lilian Mayer, Chloe Ault, Morgan Simpson, and Taylor Simpson.
