What's Good in Brockville and area? Marathon swimming legend backs Pink Shirt Day push for inclusion

Keith continues to use her experience and determination to advocate for inclusion and give young people a stronger voice in their communities

Canadian marathon swimming legend Vicki Keith is using her experience and profile to support inclusion and accessibility for children and youth in the region.

Keith has teamed up with BGC South East as the organization launches its annual Pink Shirt Day fundraiser, a community-wide initiative aimed at promoting healthy, safe and inclusive spaces.

She explained how she became involved with BGC South East.

Keith said bullying is often misunderstood. She noted many people think bullying is always direct or aggressive and described a couple of situations she has witnessed that show it can take many different forms.

Keith defined inclusion, saying people often confuse it with accessibility.

Keith, the first person to swim across all five Great Lakes and to complete a double crossing of Lake Ontario, spoke about what motivates her to stand up for children and youth who may feel they do not have a voice.

She encouraged residents to support Pink Shirt Day this year.

BGC South East operates a wide range of programs at multiple sites across the region, supporting children and youth through recreation, learning, and community outreach.

Keith continues to use her experience and determination to advocate for inclusion and give young people a stronger voice in their communities.
