The event takes place Saturday, January 10th

A torchlight parade and massive bonfire will light up Athens as the township hosts its Annual Community Bonfire this weekend.

The event takes place Saturday, January 10, at Centennial Park and Centre ’76.

Organizer Todd Evans noted the event’s long history in the community.

Evans also explained how local firefighters have come together to help make the evening possible.

The evening begins with free skating at Centre ’76 from 6 to 7 p.m., giving families a chance to enjoy winter fun on the ice. At 7:30 p.m., participants will take part in a torchlight parade, leading to the lighting of the Christmas tree bonfire.

Evans says he is still collecting natural Christmas trees for the fire.

Residents with trees to donate can contact him at 613-802-1155.

The annual event is open to the public and encourages residents of all ages to take part in the winter celebration.
