The annual Giving for Brian Blood Drive is approaching, and organizers are urging locals to help raise awareness.
The event honors the legacy of Brian Fraser, a beloved Brockville community member who passed away after a battle with cancer. Fraser was remembered as selfless and caring, and giving back to his cause keeps his memory alive while supporting those in need of blood donations.
The clinic will take place on January 26, and local participation is essential for a successful event.
Jill Gemmiti, Community Development Manager at Canadian Blood Services, said while all blood donations are important, there are certain types that are always in high demand.
She explained why there is a constant need for blood donors.
It’s important to note that donating blood doesn’t just help people who are sick; it can assist anyone in need, regardless of their situation.
Gemmiti confirmed although the clinic is filling up quickly, there are still openings.
Brockville hosts monthly blood clinics, so donations in December or February still have a significant impact. Even if the January clinic fills, cancellations can create opportunities for donors.
Even if locals cannot donate blood, spreading awareness, attending the event, or donating money can make a big difference in supporting the cause.
