What's good in Brockville? Peace pole to inspire unity along St. Lawrence River

A dedication ceremony was held last Thursday

Brockville’s waterfront now features a new symbol of hope and harmony.

Rotary Brockville has installed a Peace Pole in Reynolds Park, overlooking the St. Lawrence River, as part of a global movement to promote peace and unity.

Peace Pole committee chair Susan Brister led the project and shared why she felt inspired to bring one to the community.

The first Peace Poles were planted in Ishikawa, Japan after the bombing of Hiroshima in World War II.

The universal message reads, “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” Brister noted there are now hundreds of thousands of Peace Poles planted across the globe.

She explained that the Brockville pole features four languages chosen to represent cultures that shaped the region.

A dedication ceremony was held last week (Sept. 18) in front of the public.
