What's Good in Brockville? Fundraiser warms hearts and will keep volunteers warm next season

The fundraiser brought in a total of $5,437.27

A fundraiser for the Weekender Program for Students (WP4S) is once again showing what the Brockville community is all about.

The program moved to 803 Chelsea St. earlier this year and, to avoid the high cost of gas, staff and volunteers chose not to hook up the building’s gas service, instead relying on electric heaters and coats while working inside.

Founder and Co-ordinator of the Weekender Program, Laura Roobol, said local business owner Ingrid at Pastry King’s Princess Bakery stepped in after seeing a Facebook video showing volunteers bundled up at the new location.

Other local businesses that carry Ingrid’s baked goods helped spread the fundraiser, adding momentum to the campaign.

Roobol said more local businesses also stepped up with cash and cheque donations to support the program.

She thanked the community for all the support.

The fundraiser brought in a total of $5,437.27.

Roobol said the money will help ensure volunteers and staff preparing weekend food bags for students will not be left working in the cold next season.
