What's Good in Brockville? Kirkland’s patience pays off with first Sportsman victory at Brockville Speedway

First win since 2019

It was an emotional night for Brockville's Dylan Kirkland at the Brockville Ontario Speedway. Kirkland crossed the line 2nd in the 40 lap Sportsman race, but was declared the winner when initial race winner Gavin Eisele's race car failed to meet minimum weight requirements. Despite this being his first career win Kirkland said Eisele was the driver to beat.

Kirkland also claimed the Ogilvie's Triple Crown Sportsman title, something that was far from his mind earlier that night.

Kirkland added that it's tough to win with such great competition in the region.

Kirkland last won on August 17th of 2019 in the Novice Sportsman class. With the win it also locked up the Ogilvie's Triple Crown Series championship for 2025 The full results and night recap can be found below.

Kirkland and Bernier Shine in Ogilvie’s Showdowns as Verne Clinches Crate Sprint Title at Brockville

The first of two weeks of championships were on the line as the Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series titles were up for grabs with incredibly close battles in both series. Also, it was final points night for the Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprint Cars, with all divisions providing some intense racing all night long.

Josh Verne Jr. only had to take the green flag to be crowned the 2025 Suprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprint Car champion and would do so from the pole as he led early, with Liam Ladouceur and Rick Wilson running second and third. Verne built up a big lead over the field until lap 8 when Rick Wilson slowed with a problem off turn four ending his great run. When the green flew Verne continued to show the way but Adam Turner was on the move getting by Liam Ladouceur for second and then tried his best to run down Josh Verne Jr. for the lead. Over the final laps Adam Turner moved all over the track to try and find the fast way to catch the leader, but it was not meant to be. Josh Verne Jr. would cap off a championship year with his 8th win of the season and his 11th career Brockville win. Adam Turner, Lee Ladouceur, Rick Wilson and Ryan Poole were the top 5.

The 50 lap Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series finale for the DIRTCar 358 Modifieds saw heat winners Steve Bernier and Corey Wheeler starting on the front row with title contender Tristan Draper starting in 9th. When the green flew Bernier went to work right away leading early over Jarrett Herbison and Wheeler. Bernier had a fast car and was in charge early but behind him it was an interesting night for Tristan Draper. After getting caught up in a multi-car incident in turn four, Draper would have to restart at the back, but put on a show on his way to the front. With 15 laps complete Bernier was well in command and looking for back to back series titles, but Herbison kept the leader in sight with Corey Wheeler still third. By this time Draper had made the charge into the top 4 and would get by Wheeler for third on lap 20. At the halfway point Bernier was still in front as Draper continued his incredible charge to the runner up spot. On lap 33 the yellow everyone needed came out as Cedric Gauvreau slowed off the back stretch. When the green flew Bernier continued as the leader with Wheeler now in 2nd. On lap 34 the big charge for Draper would end, along with a shot at the Ogilvie’s title as he slowed with a problem on the front stretch. He would return but was not a factor at the finish. When the green flew it was Bernier and Herbison battling hard for the lead, with Lucas Fuller coming into the picture as he took third away from Corey Wheeler in the closing stages. On this night Steve Bernier was not to be denied as he would dominate for his third career series win and his second straight Ogilvie’s 358 Modified Series title. Jarrett Herbison turned in another great run with a runner up finish with Lucas Fuller Corey Wheeler and Johnathon Ferguson charging to fifth at the checkers.

Gavin Eisele was trying to fend off Jessica Power and a host of others for his first Ogilvie’s Series title, but more importantly his first series win and another trip to victory lane. Eisele would grab the lead early with Sylvain Dupuis and Dylan Kirkland on the charge. Eisele would have a great car early as he pulled away from the field leaving Dupuis, Kirkland and Jessica Power battling for position. On lap 11 Power made a bid for third on Kirkland but nearly spun in turn 3 hitting an infield tire. Power would drive away and would make another charge to the front. On the restart Eisele continued his great run but heading down the back stretch Tyler Stewart and Kent Miller tangled sending Miller into a series of violent flips and the red flag was displayed. To the relief of everyone Kent Miller was able to climb out of the car unhurt and walked back to the pits. The green came back out again and Eisele was in control but Dylan Kirkland was on his back bumper in the runner up spot with Bobby Herrington close by in third. Kirkland tried several times to get by but Eisele was not phased and continued his great run. On lap 33 another hard hit took place as a four car tangle in turn 1 resulted in Madie Wallace taking a hard hit into the wall near pit road. Wallace was not injured in the crash and was able to walk away. When the green flew Gavin Eisele would stay in control and held off Dylan Kirkland to cross the line first, seemingly wrapping up the win and the title. However during the post race weigh in, Eisele did not meet the minimum weight requirement set in place by DIRTCar Northeast. With this, Dylan Kirkland would be officially announced as the winner, the first of his career and the 2025 Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Sportsman Series champion. Bobby Herrington, Matt Barbour, Domonick Merkley and Xavier Andrews would cross 5th. Title contender Jessica Power made a charge 6th at the finish and also was 6th in her 358 Modified earlier in the evening.

In the 15 lap Street Stock feature Charles Marchand was looking for two in a row as he took the lead ahead of Francis Gauthier and Vincent Charbonneau. Marchand came into the night 30 points behind championship leader Mike Schonauer, who was experiencing many issues all night. In the heat race Schonauer would blow the motor in his own car. Fellow competitor Kyle Massey gave up his ride to the points leader, resulting in Schonauer saving his night with a 7th place finish. Up front Charles Marchand was taking the opportunity to gain valuable points and would do so leading the entire distance to become the divisions first two-time winner this year. Todd Raabe edged out Vincent Charbonneau for second, with Bruno Boivon and Francis Gauthier completing the top 5

The final feature of the evening was the 15 lap Novice Sportsman event and Kyle Kudrinko powered away to the lead with Tessa Riemersma and Shaun Lafave trying to stay with him. On lap 6 Lafave would drop off the pace and the yellow would fly. When the green came back out it was Kudrinko in front over Riemersma with Garin Thompson now third. Kudrinko would drive on over the final laps to secure his second win in a row and 4th of the year and get ever closer to the track title. Riemersma and Thompson would complete the podium with Shaun Lafave and Damien King completing the top 5.
