William Street overpass project is ahead of schedule

Construction and traffic concerns are a hot topic in the city right now starting with reconstruction of the William Street overpass.

Brockville Mayor Matt Wren says that project is ahead of schedule.

The next item of concern for residents is the kind of work being done on Stewart Blvd. and North Augusta Road.

Mayor Wren puts some public confusion to rest by stating that the work on those roads is strictly resurfacing, and not rebuilding or replacing those overpasses.

He says there will be digital signs going up to inform travelers.

Furthermore, since the closure and teardown of Galaxy Cinemas Brockville that started last July, there has been lots of speculation around what exactly will be taking over that site on Parkedale Avenue at the end of the old 1000 Islands Mall.

Mayor Wren confirms that a new grocery store will be going in there.

Lastly, Mayor Wren says the city and the Tall Ships Festival committee have been working extremely hard to secure a number of satellite parking lots for transportation to and from the event that runs June 20-22.
