Since 1981, Brockville’s run has raised around $500,000
Brockville’s 45th Terry Fox Run raised $10,000 on Sunday, Sept. 14, bringing the community together at Thousand Islands Secondary School under clear, sunny skies.
About 45 people joined the annual event, led by longtime organizer Ted Raby.
Mayor Matt Wren spoke to the crowd, and local piper Gord Cramb played to mark the occasion.
Raby made sure to highlight the importance of the annual run.
Many participants walked in memory of loved ones affected by cancer, a disease expected to impact 250,000 Canadians this year.
Canada recently committed $150 million in federal funding, matched by partner institutions, to support cutting-edge cancer research.
Raby shared a touching story he heard at the provincial Terry Fox Run launch in Toronto.
Since 1981, Brockville’s run has raised around $500,000. This year, Pat Allport stood out by raising $2,710 with help from family and friends.
Raby explained how modern cancer research has come a long way thanks to Terry Fox’s legacy.
Teams like Johnny’s Walker and Team Crozier walked with purpose, keeping Terry’s dream alive.
