Locals are being encouraged to take part in the annual run in support of a great cause
The 46th annual Terry Fox Run is set for Sunday, Sept. 20, with events taking place across Canada.
In Brockville, the annual run will be held at the Thousand Islands Secondary School track.
Registration begins at noon, followed by the run at 1 p.m.
Longtime organizer Ted Raby explains why he continues to stay involved.
Raby says more than $1 billion has now been raised through the Terry Fox Foundation to support cancer research.
Since 1981, Brockville’s Terry Fox Run has raised around $500,000.
He says cancer survival rates have also improved greatly over the years, thanks in part to money raised through the run.
Raby emphasizes that the event is not a race, but an opportunity for people to take part and support cancer research.
He says donations are greatly appreciated, but showing up on the day is also important.
Terry Fox’s legacy continues to inspire millions of Canadians, proving one person can impact people for generations.
