Coming off the heels of the Winter Classic's Little Blades program
From revitalizing Rotary Park to growing the game, the Brockville Winter Classic is stepping up again to make sure that kids are staying in hockey.
On Tuesday (May 27), the committee announced a new $21,000 fund to support families with minor hockey costs. Committee member Ryan Billing says the first step is making sure that the kids have what they need through their equipment exchange program.
Now that the kids have a way to get their hands on equipment, Billing says the next step is to get them in to hockey and keep them in the game. That's where the new "BWC Plays It Forward" program comes in.
Coming off the heels of the Winter Classic's Little Blades program that led to an increase in registrations at the U7 level, this initiative will help up to 70 kids in the Brockville Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) and the Brockville Angels. Bursaries will go toward registration fees for U9 and older players.
To manage the bursaries, BWC is teaming up with the national charity, Their Opportunity.
