Beloved Brockville composer and hall of fame inductee passes away

Alexander was well known as a teacher, composer and musician

The local music scene is mourning the loss of a legend. Howard Alexander, one of the first six inductees into the Brockville & Area Music & Performing Arts Hall of Fame, died early last Saturday morning.

Alexander was well known as a teacher, composer and musician. He touched the lives of many through both his music and his work in education.

In the 1980s, he composed the official Riverfest song for the city’s waterfront festival — a tune still remembered fondly by many. Over the years, he created a large body of music that continues to inspire. Some of his compositions can be heard online at howardalexander.com.

Tributes have started pouring in from former students, fellow musicians and fans across the region.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
