Brockville could raise fees on new homes and businesses

Discussions ongoing

Brockville is reviewing its Development Charges By-law and Building Permit Fees, which could lead to higher costs for new homes and businesses.

Development Charges help pay for growth-related infrastructure like roads, water, sewer, and transit. A public meeting on the issue was held April 1, and a staff report is expected in May or June.

To update the fees, the city must complete a Development Charges Background Study, which determines how much to charge developers.

At the same time, the city is reviewing Building Permit Fees. These fees cover costs like plan reviews and building inspections.

The amount charged depends on the value, type, and size of the building. The required public meeting for this fee review also took place April 1.

More updates are expected later this spring when the matter comes back to the Planning and Development Committee.
