Brockville food bank expects to exceed city's population in visits this year

Visits up 10% last month

The Brockville and Area Food Bank remains top of mind ahead of 104.9 myFM and 103.7 Giant FM's annual Food Bank Fill Up at the Real Canadian Superstore this Thursday (Oct. 9) in support of the Rotary Harvest Sharing Food Drive.

Food Bank Manager Amanda Petch says visits were up again last month, and visits for the year are expected to exceed the city's population.

With Brockville declaring food insecurity an emergency back in July, and the South Grenville Food Bank in Prescott following suit just last week, Petch hopes more food banks will say they're in this situation to force action from the municipal and provincial levels.

Food and monetary donations are encouraged between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Needed items include: peanut butter, cereal, canned meat, dried pasta, pasta sauce, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soups, shelf-stable juices, canned baked beans and cooking oil.
