Around 75 per cent of calls in Brockville last year were non-emergency-related
Brockville is joining a first-of-its-kind provincewide campaign aimed at stopping people from misusing 9-1-1.
The campaign, called When Every Second Counts, was launched by Ontario’s Emergency Services Steering Committee to raise awareness about non-emergency 9-1-1 calls and how they affect emergency services.
Mayor Matt Wren says too many people are calling 9-1-1 for the wrong reasons — from noise complaints to pocket dials.
In 2024, Brockville Police Services received more than 4,000 9-1-1 calls. About 75 per cent were non-emergency-related.
The campaign encourages residents to use non-emergency numbers for help, like Brockville Police at 613-342-0127 or the hospital at 613-345-5649.
