Judge Hurley is expected to deliver a decision within three months
A Brockville judge is weighing how much restitution, if any, a sexual assault victim will receive from a former Ontario Provincial Police officer.
The woman, identified as Jane Doe, is suing ex-OPP officer Jason Redmond for about $375,000, including damages and loss of income. She is also seeking compensation for legal fees and interest.
Both sides argued their case Tuesday before Justice Patrick Hurley. Redmond, convicted in 2023 of raping Doe while she was unconscious and filming the assault, is serving a nine-year sentence at Dorchester Penitentiary in New Brunswick.
Doe’s lawyer said Redmond showed the video to others and harassed her at work. The defence denied he shared the recording and argued she had pre-existing mental health issues.
The lawsuit, originally filed for more than $2 million, was later reduced. Hurley is expected to deliver a decision within three months.
