Several neighbours say they would prefer the hub be located on the Brockville Mental Health Centre property or another less residential area
A new treatment centre planned for downtown Brockville is raising concerns among nearby residents.
The Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub, operated by Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health, is set to open in early 2026 at 280 King Street East — the former Fulford Academy site. The facility will include 34 beds for withdrawal management, addiction treatment, and transitional housing.
While supporters see the project as a vital step toward addressing addiction, homelessness and mental health issues, some residents worry about the location’s impact on safety, tourism and property values.
This King Street East resident has mixed feelings about it.
This First Avenue resident claims that there was no prior notice from city council.
Mayor Wren responded by saying, "there is no notice because the building is already properly zoned for the type of use the hub will be. There is no approval required from the city and council has not been involved with any of the decisions related to the property. The city is very thankful that these severely needed services will now be available to help solve the core issues related to homelessness."
Several neighbours say they would prefer the hub be located on the Brockville Mental Health Centre property or another less residential area. Others questioned site security and the potential for loitering.
