Robert Runciman, a well-known political figure from Brockville, has been appointed to the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours.
Runciman is one of more than 80 new appointments to the Order, announced this week by the Governor General.
He served in public office for 45 years, including as a Brockville city councillor and a Member of Provincial Parliament for 29 years. He later represented Ontario in the Senate.
In addition to his political career, Runciman is also known as an author, union leader, environmentalist and community volunteer. He currently serves as chair of the St. Lawrence Parks Commission.
The Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
Runciman’s lifelong dedication to public service and his community earned him the title of The Honourable and membership in both the Order of Ontario and now, the Order of Canada.
