Brockville Mayor Matt Wren presented the city’s proposed 2026 municipal budget to city council on Friday, Jan. 2, marking the start of the formal review process.
The budget is the first to be introduced under Ontario’s strong mayor framework, which gives the mayor added authority in the budgeting process. Despite the new structure, the city says budget preparation followed the same approach used in previous years.
City staff began drafting the budget in late summer. The mayor directed staff to maintain city services at the levels approved by council for 2025.
Council will now review the proposed budget over the coming weeks. Members may debate service levels, discuss priorities and propose amendments before a final decision is made.
