Tension between both sides continues to grow as negotiations stall
Canada Post has turned down a request from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to settle their long-running labour dispute through binding arbitration.
The union said Sunday it had offered the Crown corporation a fair and final way to resolve contract talks that have dragged on for months. The proposal was for a binding arbitration process, where both sides agree to accept the final decision made by a neutral third party.
But Canada Post rejected the idea, saying it would not help bring stability to the postal service. In a statement released Sunday, the corporation said it believes binding arbitration would only delay a true resolution.
Canada Post said it remains committed to reaching a negotiated agreement with the union.
The union represents more than 50,000 postal workers across the country. No strike action has been announced yet, but tension between both sides continues to grow as negotiations stall.
