Canadians react as U.S. criticism grows amid border disputes, ICE protests and tourism slump

Data and industry reports show Canadian visits to the U.S. have dropped sharply in recent months amid political tensions and travel concerns

The United States has faced rising criticism over political issues, recent events involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and ongoing disputes with Canada.

Critics say federal border enforcement has fueled anger and concern about immigration policy and public safety.

Recent protests have also erupted across North America after federal immigration agents shot and killed two people in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during immigration enforcement operations, prompting widespread backlash and debate over enforcement tactics.

Small business marketing consultant from Ottawa, Michael Wood spoke about some of the problems going on south of the border.

He also said tourism is down on both sides of the border and is expected to continue falling. Data and industry reports show Canadian visits to the U.S. have dropped sharply in recent months amid political tensions and travel concerns.

Wood added that Canadians would benefit from ‘standing up’ and not letting their neighbours take advantage of them.

The fatal shootings have intensified criticism of U.S. immigration policy and drawn protests from human rights groups and local officials.
