Brockville council is looking at giving King Street a much-needed upgrade.
The Recorder and Times reports, at Tuesday’s general committee meeting, members agreed to have city staff bring forward a report in September with options to improve the downtown area.
The work could include new surfaces, curbs, lighting, and street furnishings.
Mayor Matt Wren said King Street’s infrastructure is about 30 years old and showing its age. Some benches have peeling paint, and interlocking stones are damaged.
The upgrades would target the Downtown Brockville Business Improvement Area and be considered in future city budgets.
Council also backed spending $10,650 from reserves to fix 400 to 600 broken interlocking stones in front of City Hall.
Both items still need a final vote next Tuesday.
Wren said the city wants to attract more tourists and should start thinking about bigger projects soon, especially with budget planning just months away.
He added that any extra costs should be matched with savings.
