A driver in Ottawa was pulled over just hours after being suspended, thanks to Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology used by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
On Monday (July 21), the driver received a court-ordered licence suspension in the morning. That same afternoon, OPP officers stopped the vehicle after the ALPR system flagged the licence plate.
The driver told police they thought they could still drive the car home, despite the suspension. They were charged for driving while under suspension and now face a minimum fine of $2,000.
Police say ALPR continues to help keep roads safe by quickly identifying suspended drivers and other traffic offences.
The technology scans thousands of licence plates each day and alerts officers in real time.
Ontario Provincial Police continue to remind drivers that court-ordered suspensions take effect immediately—and driving while suspended comes with serious consequences.
