70% chance of thunderstorms this morning
A multi-day heat event is set to end later today as cooler, less humid air moves in from the northwest. Daytime highs will reach 30 to 33 C, with humidex values between 37 and 40. Overnight lows will stay warm, between 20 and 23 C, until conditions improve.
Environment Canada warns the hot, humid air can cause poor air quality, with the Air Quality Health Index nearing the high-risk range. Health officials urge residents to drink water often, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable people such as seniors and those living alone.
Early signs of heat exhaustion include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and fatigue. Heat stroke is a medical emergency requiring immediate attention.
Residents should keep cool by closing blinds, wearing light clothing, and spending time in air-conditioned or shaded spaces. Public cooling centres and libraries offer safe places to escape the heat.
