Food bank use spikes in Brockville as demand hits record high

1,908 visits recorded last month

The Brockville and Area Food Bank saw a major rise in demand this April, with 1,908 visits recorded—up 9.4 per cent from the 1,737 visits in April 2024.

The highest number of visits came from children and teens aged 0 to 18, who made up 504 of the visits.

Adults aged 36 to 50 accounted for 406, while people over 60 visited 297 times. The 25 to 35 age group saw 324 visits, followed by 226 in the 51 to 59 range, and 144 in the 19 to 24 group. Seven visits were logged anonymously.

The rising cost of living, inflation, and global tariffs continue to push more people through food bank doors.

Brockville is not alone—food banks across the region report record-breaking use.

With local families feeling the strain, the food bank is urging the community to keep giving what they can to help meet the growing need.
