The island of Jamaica has been utterly devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
Former Brockville resident Mica Shamray says her and her family are safe, but it's hard to put into words.
She says it's bad in Montego Bay where they live, but the southern parts of the island in places like Black River, Treasure Beach, Bluefields and Whitehouse are just gone.
Whole communities have been flattened, roads are buried under fallen trees, power lines are everywhere, and homes have been taken away. She says it's not just damage; it's complete destruction.
Most people are without power, water and cell service to communicate with their loved ones. She says they have not heard from her mother-in-law.
The Jamaican spirit keeps people going, she says, but the country does need the support.
